    Attaching the Engine Shut-Off Clip

One of the safety features of a jet ski that you’ll be required to enact, even before you start skiing, is the engine shut-off clip. The engine shut-off clip is attached to your waist so that if you lose your balance and fall into the water, the engine will turn off protecting you and others from potential danger.

Just because you are required to be attached to the engine shut-off clip, doesn’t mean that you’ll fall into the water while jet skiing. In fact, the chances are quite low that this will happen. Attaching yourself to the shut-off clip is a purely precautionary measure just in case something happens.

    Moving Onto the Water

Once you’re connected to the engine shut-off clip, have your life jacket properly and securely fastened, and have boarded the jet ski, it’s time move out onto the water. Place your hands firmly on the handles and maintain a firm grasp on the handles throughout your ride. This will help you to keep full control over the watercraft.

    Gain Speed

Once you’ve gotten to know the machine and are comfortable turning, it’s time to move away from shore and into the deeper waters. Slowly increase your speed as you move out into the open water. If you bolt out into the water, you could fall off or cause a collision with other watercrafts, especially if you are a beginner. As you ride out and gain speed, the nose of your jet ski will rise slightly above the water. This action is normal and doesn’t mean you’re going too fast or are out of control. Relax and have fun on the watercraft.

    Readying for Impact

When you start gaining speed, your jet ski will probably jump off the waves into the air. This is what makes jet skiing such an enjoyable activity and why so many people participate in it. When your jet ski does rise slightly above the surface of the water, lift yourself up a few inches above your seat to reduce the level of impact when the jet ski crashes back into the water.

Jet skiing is one of the most exciting and thrilling water sports to take part in. If you know the basics of jet skiing before starting, it can make for a great outing. If you’re a beginning jet skier, follow these guidelines to make sure you’re prepared for your adventure. And if you’re looking to rent a jet ski for the day on the Indian River Lagoon, come to Hayley’s Jet Ski and Boat Rental.
